FIDDLING AROUND

UPDATE TUESDAY 13TH MARCH

Well so far it seems the black blog is not having too much success - Gigi even said it even made her feel suicidal! But I shall stick with it for the moment or otherwise try and move to wordpress which is a much classier site!

Just thought I would add this photo of a Christmas decoration I saw outside a house; very easy to do and most effective I thought - a 'slice' of Christmas tree with branches at the same level at the bottom, tied together at the top and filled with fir cones...

What do you think of the blog in black? Do you find it easier to read or not? It comes up very well on my laptop and the photos, for what they are worth, are much sharper.

Wow! Chocolat noir! Not sure yet...I read for a while and see if I get used to it :-)

I love it! Very dramatic; gave me quite a start when it came up. I say keep it.

I don't remember what it was like before (I'm not a regular visitor) but I do like it in black.

Before, the blog was ... chocolate, tinsie! Milk chocolate - now it seems to be made of darker stuff!

Ok for the chocolate, but what about the bird? Would it be a blackbird, or maybe a crow? I believe vultures are black as well.

I agree the black is nice but why don't you post some of your photos in a bigger format? They seem small compared to those on other Blogger blogs.

Hi Louise,
I think your snowy photos look terrific but I personally find a black background harder to read.

When I lived in Geneva, I had the same dilemma with my mother as you do, and in the end persuaded her to move to an excellent residential home where she seemed happier and less lonely.

I'm sure she'd want you to put your children's needs first.

all best, Susie

You may enjoy my novel An Old-Fashioned Arrangement set in Geneva, published by Transita.

The bird, I suppose, should be the chouca/choucas (I don't know if the singular and plural are with an 's') which here seems to the bird that the locals look at to predict the weather - or at least the butcher does! (Probably when they are flying low, he takes pot shots at them and they end up in paté de campagne or terrine de gibier...).

Betty - I post the photos in a small format, just so that the posting doesn't seem to go on for ever and ever - I think that if you click on the photo it does enlarge.

Susie - tell me about your book!

For what it's worth, I find reading white on black more of a strain, and the sombre black background is a bit depressing.

So while it looks dramatic, as a live-in blog, it is a bit much. But that's just me. :)

Susie - your name rings a bell - and it's not through your book, as I don't know it. Were you at school in Surrey or Sussex?

Gigi said...

To be honest, Louise - I've been reading it for a few days and although I find it easy on the eyes, I do think the background is a bit sinister and Goth-looking.

It won't stop me reading you, of course...but it may leave me feeling depressed and suicidal :-)

"Woman commits suicide over black blog"! No, Gigi, please don't.

I must admit I rather like it all black as it comes up so well on my computer, but I know what you mean. I shall keep it for another week or so and then see if there isn't something more interesting.

I want actually to change to wordpress which is a far sleeker site, but it just won't work with Mac and I can't go over to Microsoft - that makes me depressed!

Just posting to myself to see how accurate this NeoCounter is!
